Day 1: Visit Taquile, Luquina and Uros islands

Visit three islands in Puno in one day, sailing across Lake Titicaca, the highest lake in the world, with breathtaking views along the way.

Day 1: Puno's Day Trip: Visit Lake Titicaca, Taquile Uros and Luquina

We will begin our tour at 7:00 am, embarking on a boat journey to the Sacred Lake of the Incas, Lake Titicaca. Along this legendary lake, we will have the privilege of observing unique fauna and flora.

After three hours of travel, we will arrive at the marvelous Taquile Island, where we will explore the main square. This island is globally recognized by UNESCO as its inhabitants are considered master weavers, known for their exquisite crafts. After a brief rest, we will descend the steps that lead us to board the boat towards Luquina Chico, a community located on the Chucuito Peninsula. Here, we will be warmly welcomed and enjoy a traditional lunch prepared by a local family with products from the highlands.

This experience will allow us to learn about their way of life. The family will show us their daily activities, such as farming and caring for animals. Following this, we will board the boat again to head towards the charming Uros Islands, where we will spend approximately one hour exploring before returning to Puno.

Our journey concludes around 5:00 pm as we return to Puno, carrying with us the treasure of experiences and breathtaking landscapes of the highlands.

TRAVEL ADVIDE

Walking and Exploration: A full-day tour involves extensive walking and exploring; wear comfortable shoes and a day-long adventure. Here is another tip: Do not use NEW sneakers, use the ones that make you feel comfortable.

Documentation

Vaccinations: Check with your healthcare provider for recommended vaccinations before traveling to Peru, especially for high-altitude regions or the jungle, there, they recommend having yellow fever shots.

Healthcare

Altitude Concerns: Certain parts of the itinerary exceed altitudes where altitude sickness can be a risk. Take precautions and be aware of AMS symptoms; seeking medical advice beforehand, especially if you have pre-existing conditions, is recommended. Keep in mind the altitude changes, especially during treks and high-altitude stays; heed any guidance provided regarding altitude sickness. In case you feel it is really heavy, you can ask your doctor for some pills or just have coca tea, it always helps!
Health Precautions: Stay hydrated, especially in higher altitudes like Cusco, and be aware of the potential effects of altitude sickness. Carry any necessary medications (ask your primary care doctor), insect repellent, and a basic first-aid kit.

Is this tour right for me?

Family-Friendly: This tour offers some different activities suitable for families. The itinerary includes a variety of experiences, from cultural explorations to outdoor adventures. Since we offer day per day well distributed tours, it could suit children and whole families, just be ready for the adventure and get to know beforehand the activities we will have during this trip.
Age Suitability: Many parts of the itinerary are family-friendly, welcoming children of different ages. However, some activities, like the Humantay Lake trek or the Rainbow Mountain trek, involve moderate physical activity and might be more suitable for older children or those comfortable with hiking. In case you have babies, they are welcome too BUT remember to bring their special request and take care of them all the time.

Food and Drink

Altitude and Diet: In higher altitudes, you might find lighter meals for the first days such as chicken soup. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, especially in elevated areas.

Culture

Hand crafts: Always keep some cash with you to buy some souvenirs you may want. They sometimes accept cards but cash is the most popular payment method.
Tipping Culture: Tipping norms in Peru for tour guides, drivers, and other service providers are not fixed. We always recommend giving a personal appreciation but it is not a must, it is up to you.

Climate

Weather Variation: Weather across regions can differ; ensure to pack for diverse climates, especially for varying altitudes. For example, Ica y warm and dry, so summer clothes can be good. For Cusco or Machu Picchu, we never know so it is important to always pack a warm jacket and rain gear.

Communication

Language: Basic knowledge of Spanish might be helpful, but English is commonly spoken in tourist areas.
Connectivity: In cities like Lima and Cusco, you'll find good internet connectivity. However, in more remote areas, such as the mountains or while hiking, you have to be aware that we will not be connected to wifi or the internet. Expect limited or no internet access.
