Day1 : From Cusco to Chinchero: Enjoy the day with andean cuisine

Today we will head to the charming village of Chinchero, famous for its textiles and the wide variety of colors derived from natural products in the area, such as herbs, cochineal, and salt. From Chinchero, we will travel 20 minutes further to Pongobamba, near the Piuray Lagoon, where we will have one of the most incredible experiences related to Andean gastronomy, learning about some lesser-known but useful techniques for food preparation used by the local people.
These moments will be unforgettable, as the experience and memories will be unique, interacting with the local population.

Day 1: Chinchero & Piuray Lagoon Cultural moments: Music, Food & Hand Crafts.

Our day starts with a pick-up from your hotel in a tourist vehicle. We will continue for approximately 35 minutes to the town of Chincheros, and then we will take a detour along a pathway to the shores of the Piuray Lagoon, the village of Pongobamba, a beautiful town located 31 kilometers from the city of Cusco.

Upon your arrival, you will be welcomed by songs, dances, their traditional music, and Andean chants from the local region. The local people who greet you will wear beautiful traditional clothing representing colors in the shades of red, orange, ochre, and black—the traditional clothing of Chincheros, which the population still wears today. You will experience an Andean experience preparing Pachamanca, a dish made in an ancestral way with a unique way of preparing. It will be layered with meats, potatoes, vegetables, and aromatic herbs. It is cooked underground with hot rocks and covered with leaves from local plants, adding flavor to this ancestral dish.
Following this appetizing lunch, local women will display their handicrafts, showing how they hand-weave and craft bags, blankets, and sweaters out of alpaca, llama, and sheep wool. You will also have the opportunity to buy handmade native souvenirs.

At the end of this experience, we will return to Cusco, wherever we will treasure the experiences of music, dance, unique gastronomy, and colorful traditions of Chinchero.

Take precautions and be aware of AMS symptoms; seeking medical advice beforehand, especially if you have pre-existing conditions, is recommended. Keep in mind the altitude changes, especially during treks and high-altitude stays; heed any guidance provided regarding altitude sickness. In case you feel it is really heavy, you can ask your doctor for some pills or just have coca tea, it always helps!
