Day 1: Chinchero, Maras, Moray and Ollantaytambo

Starting early in the morning from Cusco, first, visit the colorful town of Chinchero, the andean terraces of Moray and the salt pools of Maras. End your day with a visit to Ollantaytambo ancient site.

Last but not least, board the train to Aguas Calientes and relax yourself in a local hotel.

Day 2: Make your dreams come true in Machu Picchu

Ascend 400 meters via bus to Machu Picchu. After exploration and optional lunch in Aguas Calientes, return to Cusco by train, ending this incredible day immersed in Machu Picchu's marvels.

Day 1: Discovering the best of the Inca´s history: Chinchero - Maras - Moray - Ollantaytambo.

We have much to uncover in Cusco, so let's start with the Sacred Valley.

Early, between 6:00 am and 6:30 am, we'll embark on a day of touring, starting with Chinchero, a small town in Cusco known as the land of colorful textiles. Here, we will visit some wool farms and learn how it is made from scratch. We can also buy some handcrafted goods here!

Our next spot will be Maras Salt Mines and the Moray terraces: the circular terraces of Moray and the natural salt mines of Maras. Both places played crucial roles during the Incan era. Moray was termed an Incan laboratory that acclimatized seeds for distribution across various altitudinal levels. Similarly, the salt from Maras served as a form of trade in the area.

After these visits, it is lunch time and we'll get the opportunity to taste the Peruvian flavors in a local restaurant in Urubamba. Satisfied with our culinary adventure, we'll continue to the archaeological complex of Ollantaytambo. This site is an impressive fortress showcasing the Incan architectural prowess. Guided through the imposing Incan constructions, we'll experience one of Cusco's most emblematic journeys, witnessing aqueducts, terraces, temples, streets, and legends rooted in the heart of Incan heritage.

To wrap up the day, we will board the panoramic train to Aguas Calientes, after 2 hours we will get to this small town and soak in the tranquility of the river and town at a comfortable local hotel.

Day 2: Make your dreams come true in Machu Picchu!

This day we'll start our tour very early, and after breakfast, we'll head to the station to board the bus. Here, we will ascend 400 meters along a zigzagging path for 30 minutes to reach the incredible wonder of the world, "The Sanctuary of Machu Picchu," also known as "The Lost City of the Incas."

Now, your dreams come true, you will have, just in front of you the beautifulness of this mystical place.

Time to go in! You'll pass through the entrance control where you'll present your ticket. From there, the guided tour will start, visiting main sites such as the Main Plaza, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Solar Clock, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows, and the cemeteries.

After the guided tour, you'll have free time to explore Machu Picchu on your own. Later, we'll return to the town of Aguas Calientes, where you can have lunch at one of the local restaurants (lunch is not included).

In the afternoon, you'll board the train back to Cusco (please arrive at the station 30 minutes before your train's departure time). The return journey follows the same route as the first one. Upon arrival at the Ollantaytambo Train Station, we'll be there to transfer you to your hotel in Cusco (a 1-hour and 30-minute car ride).

TRAVEL ADVIDE

Adventurous Activities: Sandboarding and dune buggy rides can be thrilling but may require physical fitness for participation. You are not forced to do adventurous activities, you can always say no in case you are afraid of.
Walking and Exploration: A full-day tour involves extensive walking and exploring; wear comfortable shoes and a day-long adventure. Here is another tip: Do not use NEW sneakers, use the ones that make you feel comfortable.
Physical Challenge: The hike to Humantay Lake or Rainbow Mountain involves a steep path and an early start. Prepare for a moderate physical challenge. You can train in your hometown with some small hikes or walks at least 2 days per week.
Packing Guide: Refer to this packing guide LINK for specific packing suggestions considering varying conditions.

Documentation

Passport & Visa: Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your planned departure date. Citizens of many countries, including the US, Canada, the UK, and most of Europe, do not need a visa for tourist visits to Peru for up to 90 days.
Travel Insurance: Consider travel insurance that covers medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and any high-altitude trekking activities. Is not mandatory for this trip but we EXTREMELY recommend having one.
Vaccinations: Check with your healthcare provider for recommended vaccinations before traveling to Peru, especially for high-altitude regions or the jungle, there, they recommend having yellow fever shots.

Healthcare

Altitude Concerns: Certain parts of the itinerary exceed altitudes where altitude sickness can be a risk. Take precautions and be aware of AMS symptoms; seeking medical advice beforehand, especially if you have pre-existing conditions, is recommended. Keep in mind the altitude changes, especially during treks and high-altitude stays; heed any guidance provided regarding altitude sickness. In case you feel it is really heavy, you can ask your doctor for some pills or just have coca tea, it always helps!

Is this tour right for me?

Family-Friendly: This tour offers some different activities suitable for families. The itinerary includes a variety of experiences, from cultural explorations to outdoor adventures. Food and Drink

Peruvian dishes: Peru is famous for its diverse and tasteful cuisine. Don't miss trying dishes like ceviche (raw fish marinated in citrus juices), lomo saltado (stir-fried beef), and causa limena (mashed potato dish). Sample local dishes at recommended restaurants or street food stalls under safe and hygienic conditions.
Altitude and Diet: In higher altitudes, you might find lighter meals for the first days such as chicken soup. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, especially in elevated areas.

Culture

Hand crafts: Always keep some cash with you to buy some souvenirs you may want. They sometimes accept cards but cash is the most popular payment method.
Machu Picchu “classical view”: Probably we always see the typical Machu Picchu postcard view. It is possible to have this spectacular view BUT remember to choose the season accurately because during the rainy season it is kind of foggy to have good views.
Tipping Culture: Tipping norms in Peru for tour guides, drivers, and other service providers are not fixed. We always recommend giving a personal appreciation but it is not a must, it is up to you.

Climate

Weather Variation: Weather across regions can differ; ensure to pack for diverse climates, especially for varying altitudes. For example, Ica y warm and dry, so summer clothes can be good. For Cusco or Machu Picchu, we never know so it is important to always pack a warm jacket and rain gear.
Seasons in Cusco: In Cusco there are two specific seasons: Rainy and Dry season. Even though there is always the possibility of having rain or sun unexpectedly. But here you can have some advice: From April to September, we have the dry season and from October until March, we have the dry season.

Communication

Language: Basic knowledge of Spanish might be helpful, but English is commonly spoken in tourist areas.
Connectivity: In cities like Lima and Cusco, you'll find good internet connectivity. However, in more remote areas, such as the mountains or while hiking, you have to be aware that we will not be connected to wifi or the internet. Expect limited or no internet access.
