ITINERARY AT A GLANCE

Humantay Lagoon is one of the favorite destinations for hiking and nature lovers. Its colorful turquoise water has captivated many travelers. This natural wonder is surrounded by the Salkantay and Humantay snow-capped mountains.
Enjoy this day! We will start early in the morning, pick you up from your hotel, and head for approximately 3 hours to Mollepata, where we will stop for breakfast at the Peru Ecocamp restaurant. After this stop, we will continue for another 30 minutes to Soraypampa, our starting point. We will walk for about an hour and a half to reach the iconic viewpoint to see Humantay Lagoon.
The return will follow the same path, approximately 3 hours of walking round trip. Enjoy lunch at the same Ecocamp restaurant, prepared with natural local products. After a brief rest, it's time to return to Cusco.

Day 1: Humantay lake, the most turquoise clear water in Cusco.

This amazing day will start around 4 am in the morning, we know, it's a bit early but we can ensure that it will be totally worth it.
We will drive to Mollepata for about 3 hours approx. During this ride, you can enjoy the landscapes or just take a nap to recover some strength. After this drive, we will reach Peru Ecocamp restaurant. This is one of the most delightful places with standards of quality, so this is the chosen one for our meals! You can have Peruvian dishes with local products and take some rest before the walk starts.

We have 30 more minutes to go! From Mollepata, we will drive to Soraypampa, a small village where this trek starts!

After having some instructions and the walking sticks ready, we can finally start walking for one hour and a half up to the main viewpoint. This path is a bit steep but there's nothing we can't do. To make this trip even better, nature will host us with stunning views, sacred mountains, and immaculate glaciers that shows us that we are not anymore in the crowded city.

Our guide will give us the strength to continue and some historical information of the site. Once we arrive, we will be more than pleased to be here. We finally made this!

Selfie time! we will have some free time for pictures or just admire the zone. Once ready, lunch time is waiting for us. We will walk back for one hour and a half. Our way down will be easier, no worries!

Once at Peru Ecocamp, with our stomachs full, now it's time to return to our hotels with a bunch of memories to share.

TRAVEL ADVIDE

Adventurous Activities: Sandboarding and dune buggy rides can be thrilling but may require physical fitness for participation. You are not forced to do adventurous activities, you can always say no in case you are afraid of.
Walking and Exploration: A full-day tour involves extensive walking and exploring; wear comfortable shoes and a day-long adventure. Here is another tip: Do not use NEW sneakers, use the ones that make you feel comfortable.
Physical Challenge: The hike to Humantay Lake or Rainbow Mountain involves a steep path and an early start. Prepare for a moderate physical challenge. You can train in your hometown with some small hikes or walks at least 2 days per week.
Packing Guide: Refer to this packing guide LINK for specific packing suggestions considering varying conditions.

Documentation

Travel Insurance: Consider travel insurance that covers medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and any high-altitude trekking activities. Is not mandatory for this trip but we EXTREMELY recommend having one.
Vaccinations: Check with your healthcare provider for recommended vaccinations before traveling to Peru, especially for high-altitude regions or the jungle, there, they recommend having yellow fever shots.

Healthcare

Altitude Concerns: Certain parts of the itinerary exceed altitudes where altitude sickness can be a risk. Take precautions and be aware of AMS symptoms; seeking medical advice beforehand, especially if you have pre-existing conditions, is recommended. Keep in mind the altitude changes, especially during treks and high-altitude stays; heed any guidance provided regarding altitude sickness. In case you feel it is really heavy, you can ask your doctor for some pills or just have coca tea, it always helps!
Health Precautions: Stay hydrated, especially in higher altitudes like Cusco, and be aware of the potential effects of altitude sickness. Carry any necessary medications (ask your primary care doctor), insect repellent, and a basic first-aid kit.

Is this tour right for me?

Age Suitability: Many parts of the itinerary are family-friendly, welcoming children of different ages. However, some activities, like the Humantay Lake trek or the Rainbow Mountain trek, involve moderate physical activity and might be more suitable for older children or those comfortable with hiking. In case you have babies, they are welcome too BUT remember to bring their special request and take care of them all the time.

Food and Drink

Altitude and Diet: In higher altitudes, you might find lighter meals for the first days such as chicken soup. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, especially in elevated areas.

Culture

Hand crafts: Always keep some cash with you to buy some souvenirs you may want. They sometimes accept cards but cash is the most popular payment method.
Tipping Culture: Tipping norms in Peru for tour guides, drivers, and other service providers are not fixed. We always recommend giving a personal appreciation but it is not a must, it is up to you.

Climate

Weather Variation: Weather across regions can differ; ensure to pack for diverse climates, especially for varying altitudes. For example, Ica y warm and dry, so summer clothes can be good. For Cusco or Machu Picchu, we never know so it is important to always pack a warm jacket and rain gear.
Seasons in Cusco: In Cusco there are two specific seasons: Rainy and Dry season. Even though there is always the possibility of having rain or sun unexpectedly. But here you can have some advice: From April to September, we have the dry season and from October until March, we have the dry season.

Communication

Language: Basic knowledge of Spanish might be helpful, but English is commonly spoken in tourist areas.
Connectivity: In cities like Lima and Cusco, you'll find good internet connectivity. However, in more remote areas, such as the mountains or while hiking, you have to be aware that we will not be connected to wifi or the internet. Expect limited or no internet access.
