The adventure begins with pick up from your hotel in the Historic Center or nearby areas. An early start, but the rewards are more than worth it.
We travel for approximately 2.5 hours to the village of Pacchanta, with stunning highland landscapes unfolding along the way.
We enjoy a delicious local breakfast to prepare our bodies for the hike ahead.
We begin the 4 hour trek through the majestic landscapes surrounding the Apu Ausangate. Along the way, we visit the beautiful lagoons of Azulcocha, Otorongo, Oquecocha, Murococha, Pucacocha, Alpacocha, and Qomercocha, each with its own unique shade and charm. We also admire the mountains of Ausangate and the entire Qayangate mountain range.
During the trek, we spot birds, llamas, alpacas, and many vizcachas. With luck, we might even see the majestic Andean condor soaring through the sky.
After completing the circuit, we make our way back to the village of Pacchanta.
We enjoy between 30 minutes and 1 hour in the natural hot springs, perfect for relaxing our muscles after the trek.

That depends a lot on what you’re hoping to see. If you’re coming for Machu Picchu or the Andes in general, most people prefer the dry season like May through September because the weather’s more stable and there’s less rain. It’s also when everything’s in full swing.
But to be honest, the rainy season isn’t terrible either. Sure, you might get wet, but the mountains are super green and it’s less crowded. Some travelers love that kind of atmosphere.
So yeah, it really comes down to your style. Some like clear skies and others don’t mind a bit of mud if it means having the place more to themselves.
We always recommend it. Some spots like Machu Picchu or the Inca Trail can fill up weeks or even months ahead, especially during high season. If you wait until the last minute, there’s a chance you might miss out or have fewer options.
