To better manage the impact of visitor influx to the Inca city and thus protect and preserve the archaeological site, Machu Picchu authorities have established routes based on the chosen entrance. Let’s learn about the new circuits in Machu Picchu.

New circuits in Machu Picchu: Circuit 1, Panoramic Circuit:

The routes of Circuit 1 are distinguished by their spectacular panoramic views. From the heights of the archaeological center, visitors can enjoy an iconic view immortalized in the most famous photograph of this marvel. Afterwards, visitors have the opportunity to explore various selected sites: Machu Picchu Mountain, Intipunku or Sun Gate, and the Inca Bridge, depending on the type of ticket purchased.

It's important to note that this circuit does not include access to the urban area of the citadel.

  • Route 1B, which does not connect with other sections of the archaeological center, includes a visit to the viewpoint to capture the typical image from the summit.

CIRCUIT 1: PANORAMIC CIRCUIT

  • ROUTE 1-A: Panoramic Circuit + Machu Picchu Mountain (4 - 5 hours)
  • ROUTE 1-B: Panoramic Circuit (1 hour)
  • ROUTE 1-C: Panoramic Circuit + Inti Punku or Sun Gate (2 hours 30 minutes - 3 hours) *Only high season
  • ROUTE 1-D: Panoramic Circuit + Inca Bridge (2 hours) *Only high season
  • The duration of this circuit is approximately 4 to 5 hours.

Circuit 2 Classic, Inca Citadel Circuit:

This is one of the most recommended and classic options as it offers a more complete tour allowing for a full enjoyment of the visit to the Machu Picchu Citadel. There are both a complete classic circuit and a short classic circuit, both routes offering almost identical experiences, giving visitors a comprehensive exploration of the Inca citadel.

The duration of these circuits is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, providing ample time for enjoyment at the citadel.

CIRCUIT 2: CLASSIC CIRCUIT

  • ROUTE 2-A: Classic Circuit + Upper Terrace (2 hours 30 minutes)
  • ROUTE 2-B: Classic Circuit + Lower Terrace (2 hours 30 minutes)

*Both routes offer almost identical experiences, providing visitors with a complete exploration of the citadel. These circuits represent our standard entry options, subject to availability.

New circuits in Machu Picchu: Circuit 3, Royalty Circuit:

Circuit 3 offers a tour of the lower area of the archaeological center, highlighting the House of the Inca, the Temple of the Condor, and the area of the Three Doorways. This route provides a more detailed experience of the urban area of Machu Picchu. Additionally, it offers access to Huchuy Picchu and the Great Cave. The Royalty Circuit + Huayna Picchu Mountain takes 3 to 5 hours to complete, with a moderately high difficulty.

Due to its easy access and lower physical demand, route 3B, which does not connect with other sections of the archaeological site, is ideal for those who prefer a more accessible tour. This route offers access to several significant buildings in the lower section of Machu Picchu, characterized by minimal uphill walking and a reduced number of steps. Here we can visit:

  • The House of the Inca
  • The Temple of the Condor
  • The area of the Three Doorways

CIRCUIT 3: ROYALTY CIRCUIT

  • ROUTE 3-A: Royalty Circuit + Huayna Picchu Mountain (3 - 5 hours)
  • ROUTE 3-B: Royalty Circuit (2 hours)
  • ROUTE 3-C: Royalty Circuit + Great Cave (2 hours 30 minutes - 3 hours) *Only high season
  • ROUTE 3-D: Royalty Circuit + Huchuy Picchu (3 hours) *Only high season

In conclussion, to visit the Panoramic Circuit + Intipunku and Panoramic Circuit + Inca Bridge, please note these New circuits in Machu Picchu are only open during the high season with specific schedules and moderate difficulty.

Recommendations for your visit 

High season runs from June 1 to October 15. Our priority order for visiting is as follows:

  • Route 2-A: Classic Circuit + Upper Terrace
  • Route 2-B: Classic Circuit + Lower Terrace
  • Route 3-B: Royalty Circuit
